A little history about Tuna motel.

A little history about Tuna motel.

Tuna Motel began to be built in 1954 by Harry Detlofsson and Enar Jansson and was completed in 1955.

It was the second miotel in Sweden. From the beginning, the motel only had 6 rooms and a small restaurant. During this time there was also the petrol station which had a simple coffee service.

For several years, extensions have been made to both the pub but above all the motel and the kitchen area. From 1976 it looked like it does today.

Right from the beginning, it was open 24 hours a day. Tuna Motel's restaurant was widely known in Sweden for its good food. The business was profitable but of course it was a lot of work because they were open around the clock.

Among other things, they were known for their good meatballs and Tunamacka. The tuna sandwich consisted of half a raw steak, fried egg, falu sausage and vegetables.

The sandwich came about after a request from a guest who wanted a hot sandwich. This sandwich was made in the hundreds every day. It was a favorite after a visit to the cinema or dance in, for example, Nävekvarn, when many guests found their way to the Tuna motel at night.

A very nice interior detail was the various paintings made by the two Danish hikers, Will and Bill, as payment for food and room. They made three large paintings on the walls and ceiling, which are still there today. The first was made already in 1956.

The owners leased the motel between 1980-86. But when Nyköpingsbro was finished with the E4, they wanted to continue there and the previous owners took over the business again.
